"Anabell"
|
Update: February 2014 - Anabell freshened for the second time on January 22, 2014. Her two bucklings were absolutely beautiful and have found a great home. I have more pictures of Anabell and her even better udder coming soon (gotta find that battery charger for the clippers...). Nevertheless, her udder capacity has increased even more with her second freshening. I am nearly getting 1.5 gallons from her daily.
Anabell's Background Story
My husband and I hadn't gotten out much in the summer of 2012, it was nearing the start of fall and my friend basically drug my husband and I out to the fair. Growing up in the suburbs of Michigan I didn't really have much exposure to farm animals, so when I go to the county fair I tend to ignore the rides, as I'm drawn to the livestock. We were looking at all the chickens, when I heard a goat bellow. I gave my husband that look and he knew we were about to look at some goats--you see he is understanding of my love for the goats, but he doesn't necessarily share the love of them. I saw a whole pen of kids running and jumping around. I kept watching and eventually picked Anabell as her conformation excelled as a young doeling. I began talking with the Adam's Family and they told me she was for sale. The next day I drove out there and picked her up. As we were completing the sale and transfer of the papers, Trisha told me that she won first place in her class at the fair! I was in love.
Anabell is a graceful goat, with a lot of dairy character. She is moves very athletically and yet maintains her femininity. She is very smart and figured out the milk stand very quickly.

Anabell has been an interesting addition to our herd, we were very excited to finally get a chance to breed her in January of 2013, she kidded on June 17, exactly on schedule.
She was bred to a black buck. We found out a little bit about her coloring. She is brown with heavier white roaning, frosted ears (dominant trait), and a black dorsal stripe. We found that she carries the black recessive coloring and she also carries the recessive ear coloring (instead of the frosted ears). Her one daughter is black with roaning and the other is a reddish brown, we will see yet if it is roaning, I think it may be solid.
